Ryan Sprock was selected to the All-CAA First Team, as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon. Sprock becomes the fourth Phoenix to earn four All-CAA selections over just three years at Elon.
Alex Duffey and
Jackson Alford were awarded All-CAA Second Team selections while
Justin Mitrovich was awarded as an honorable mention.
Ryan Sprock was selected as the All-CAA First Team Utility for his abilities in the batter's box and on the mound. Sprock enters the CAA Championships in the top 10 in the CAA in hits, runs scored, home runs, RBIs, total bases and slugging percentage. Sprock has also been Elon's top reliever and one of the top relievers in the CAA. His four saves are top five in the CAA and his batting average against of .125 is near the top of the league.
Alex Duffey becomes the sixth catcher in the last eight years for the Phoenix to earn an All-conference nod or All-Tournament team award. Duffey is the first primary catcher to be awarded second team or higher since Alex Swim was selected as the All-SoCon First Team catcher in 2012. Duffey was one of the CAA leaders in getting on-base and sits in the top five in both walks and on-base percentage.
Jackson Alford was awarded as a second-team selection as an infielder. Alford is tied for third in the league in runs scored and sixth in runs scored during conference play. The junior is one of two Elon players to play and start in all 54 games this season. He is batting .296 going into the CAA Championships and is second on the team in extra-base hits (23) and total bases (105).
Justin Mitrovich was selected to his second All-CAA team after being awarded an honorable mention. Mitrovich is third in the CAA in innings pitched and fifth in strikeouts. Opponents have batted just .227 against Mitrovich this season, which sets a new career high for the right-hander. Mitrovich enters the CAA Championships with 238 career strikeouts, good enough for fifth all-time in Elon's history.
The Phoenix will open the CAA Championship in the No.3/No.6 game against the Campbell Camels. First pitch between the Camels and Phoenix will be at 4 PM.
