WAYNESVILLE – Drew Yeagley carded the best 18-hole round of his young collegiate career with a 4-under-par 66 to guide the Elon men's golf team to a 4-under 276 in the final round of the JT Poston Invitational on Tuesday. Elon (+6, 286-284-276 – 846) finished the three-day, 54-hole tournament in ninth place overall at the Waynesville Inn and Golf Club.
Yeagley, a freshman playing in his second collegiate tournament, set the tone for an impressive first nine holes for the Phoenix with a bogey-free 3-under on holes 10-18. He rebounded from a bogey on hole 3 with another pair of birdies on 5 and 6 to finish in a tie for 18th individually with an even par 210 (68-76-66) for the tournament. The Waxhaw native climbed 28 spots on the leaderboard after starting the third round in a tie for 46th.
Jack Wieler finished close behind Yeagley in a tie for 22nd with a 1-over 211 (71-69-71) for the tournament. Freshman
Dylan Lewis notched Elon's second-best score of the third round with a 2-under 68 and placed 33rd at 3-over (213). All five Phoenix in the lineup shot 72 or better Tuesday.
Southern Miss (-13) won the team title while host Western Carolina's Tyler Jones (-10) claimed individual medalist honors.
