The NC State Series
- Elon has never beaten the Wolfpack, with NC State leading the all-time series, 16-0.
- The most recent match between the teams came on Sept. 1, 2022, at Rudd. Jessica Carrieri scored first for Elon in that contest from a Bethany Harford assist, but NC State rallied with the next two goals to secure a 2-1 victory.
- This will be the eighth time the Phoenix and Wolfpack have squared off at Rudd.
Last Time Out
- A late goal in the second half Sunday night at High Point propelled the Phoenix to a 1-0 road victory over the Panthers.
- Jess Beck converted in the 77th minute on a rebound following an Isa Murdock attempt. It was her second career goal and her first ever game-winning goal.
- In goal, Katie Bisgrove posted her fourth straight shutout victory, making seven saves, just one shy of her season high (8).
- Ashlee Brehio paced the Phoenix with five shot attempts, taking half of Elon's shots on the night.
- Grace Gelhaus, Jessica Hill and Alexis Pierce logged the full 90 minutes for the Phoenix on the backline, with Ava Hellner going the full distance in the midfield. Gabby Hoschek went 88 minutes in the Phoenix midfield.
- The victory was Elon's first at High Point since 2000, snapping a streak of seven straight draws or losses at High Point for the Phoenix.
- Elon has now won or tied in its last four road games (4-0-1) played in North Carolina.
Shutout Streak
- Elon has posted four consecutive clean sheets against VMI, Gardner-Webb, Queens and High Point. Bisgrove has started all four contests in goal for the Phoenix.
- The Phoenix has not allowed a goal since the season opener at VCU on Aug. 14. That was the only goal Elon has conceded on the season.
- Elon has not conceded a goal in the last 373:28 of game time entering Thursday. It's been over six hours of game action since VCU netted the lone goal scored against the Phoenix this season.
- Bisgrove is the first Elon goalie to record four consecutive shutout victories since McKenna Dalfonso did so in the spring 2021 campaign.
- In the last four shutout wins, Elon has outshot its opponents, 72-32. Of the 32 shots attempted by opponents, only 11 have required a Bisgrove save.
- With the consecutive clean sheets, Bisgrove is up to 9.5 career shutouts.
- Hill has played all 450 minutes for the Phoenix to anchor the backline this season. Pierce has logged 423 minutes on the backline, with Hoschek (411) also over 400 minutes in the midfield.
- Elon has not trailed in a match this season, having scored first in all five of its contests.
Katie B On Repeat
- For the second time in three weeks, Bisgrove was tabbed as the CAA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
- Bisgrove anchored Elon's shutout victories at Queens (3-0) and High Point (1-0) last week.
- The sophomore goalkeeper stopped a pair of shots to blank the Royals before making seven saves versus the Panthers. The seven stops were one shy of her season high, which she set in the season opener at VCU.
- Bisgrove previously won the award on Aug. 18 following her eight-save effort against the Rams and a clean sheet versus VMI.
Murdock's Hot Start
- Murdock leads the Phoenix with six points on the season, taking over the team lead with her assist Sunday night at High Point.
- The redshirt junior is tied with Gelhaus for a team-high two goals on the season. Her 19 shot attempts are eight more than any other Phoenix player through the first five games.
- She scored Elon's first goal of 2025 in the season opener at VCU, connecting from just outside the box after dribbling the ball from midfield.
- Against Gardner-Webb on Aug. 24, Murdock scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute to propel Elon to a 1-0 victory.
- Against the Runnin' Bulldogs, Murdock paced the Phoenix with seven shot attempts and six shots on goal. She has led Elon in shot attempts in three games this season.
- Murdock's goal against the Runnin' Bulldogs was the 10th of her career, as she joined Ashlee Brehio as current Elon players with double-digit career goals as a Phoenix.
GG
- Gelhaus, a preseason All-CAA selection, is second on the team with five points this season. She has almost matched her season total of seven points from a season ago in Elon's first five games.
- The junior scored two goals in a 21-second span in Elon's 4-0 victory over VMI on Aug. 17. She also assisted on Murdock's game-winning tally against Gardner-Webb on Sunday.
- Gelhaus is third on the team with 10 shots, five of which have been on target. She has logged the fifth most minutes by Phoenix position players this season (380).
The Great Gabby
- Hoschek is off to a strong start in 2025, as her four points trail just Murdock and Gelhaus for the most on the Phoenix.
- On Thursday against Queens, Hoschek connected on a free kick for her first goal of the campaign, ricocheting the ball off the left post and past the Royals' goalkeeper in the fourth minute.
- In the second half, Hoschek delivered the secondary assist on Hellner's header goal. It was the junior's second time recording a goal and assist in the same contest, with the other coming at Wofford on Sept. 2, 2024.
- Hoschek also tallied an assist in Elon's victory over VMI, helping on the first of two Gelhaus goals.
- Hoschek has started all five games for Elon this season, logging 411 minutes.
Balanced Attack
- Through the first five games this season, Elon has had eight different scorers for its 10 goals.
- Murdock and Gelhaus are the only Phoenix to net multiple goals on the campaign, with Gelhaus scoring both hers in a 21-second span versus VMI.
- Two Elon players have converted their first career goals this season. Freshman Abby Brinker scored in the second half of the VMI win, with junior Jenna Abousaab finding her first career tally in the victory at Queens.
- Beck delivered the game-winning goal for Elon on Sunday night against High Point, her second career tally.
- Hellner and junior Lauren McCauley are the other two goal scorers this season for the Phoenix.
- Additionally, 11 Elon players have recorded points on the campaign, with Brehio (2), Lilly McFadden (1) and Gia Milano (2) all having assists.
Non-Conference Streak
- Elon extended its unbeaten streak against non-conference opponents to 11 on Sunday night with its win at High Point. The streak started last season, and the Phoenix is 9-0-2 since the start of 2024 versus non-conference opposition.
- During that stretch, Elon has outscored its opponents, 20-5, which includes seven clean sheets.
- The 11 results have come against eight different opponents. Five have come at Rudd with other six coming on the road.
- Elon's last loss to a non-conference foe came on Aug. 31, 2023, when the Phoenix fell at No. 12/13 South Carolina.
Preseason Accolades
- Elon was picked to finish first in the new CAA South Division, as the conference unveiled its preseason polls on Aug. 11. The Phoenix received nine of 12 first place votes and garnered 63 total points in the vote by the league's head coaches.
- The Phoenix also had three players earn Preseason All-CAA recognition. Junior defender Grace Gelhaus and sophomore goalkeeper Katie Bisgrove earned a spot on the Preseason All-CAA Team while junior midfielder Gabby Hoschek was tabbed a Preseason All-CAA honorable mention.
- Gelhaus was an All-CAA First Team selection a season ago after making 16 starts in 18 appearances for the Phoenix. She led Elon's defenders in goals (2), assists (3) and points (7) while logging the full 90 minutes on seven occasions. In Elon's CAA quarterfinal victory over College of Charleston, Gelhaus assisted on Elon's opening goal and notched the game-winning tally in the final five minutes to lift the Phoenix to a 2-1 victory.
- Bisgrove earned All-CAA Rookie Team honors as a freshman in 2024. She made 15 starts in net for the Phoenix, delivering 10 victories, the second most by an Elon freshman in the program's Division I tenure. Bisgrove secured 66 saves in her rookie campaign and had 5.5 shutouts, one of just 15 Division I freshmen to register five or more clean sheets last season. She took home CAA Rookie of the Week on Sept. 23 following a five-save outing in a 2-1 victory over Northeastern.
- Hoschek appeared in all 18 contests for Elon is 2024 on her way to earning All-CAA Second Team recognition. She totaled four goals, three assists and 11 points a season ago, with four of those points (1g, 2a) coming in Elon's 4-2 triumph at Wofford. The midfielder also netted goals against Gardner-Webb, Northeastern and Hofstra.
New Look CAA Soccer
- Starting in 2025, the CAA will feature two divisions for women's soccer – a North and South Division.
- Elon is part of the South Division alongside Campbell, College of Charleston, Hampton, UNCW and William & Mary.
- The Phoenix will face all five South Division teams in the regular season along with four teams from the North Division.
- At the end of the regular season, the top three teams from each division will qualify for the CAA Championship. The top seed in each division will receive a by to the semifinals while the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds in both the North and South will clash in the quarterfinals.
Scouting NC State
- The Wolfpack is still searching for its first win this season, entering Thursday with an 0-5-1 mark.
- NC State has lost four straight contests since a road draw at East Carolina on Aug. 17.
- Jade Bordeleau has scored two of NC State's three goals on the season. Antonella Mazziotto netted the other goal. Daisy Duda has a pair of assists to lead the Wolfpack.
- Three different goalies have seen minutes for the Wolfpack this season. Olivia Pratapas leads the group in minutes with 296.
- NC State was picked to finish No. 16 out of 17 teams in the ACC preseason poll.
- Gary Higgins is in his first season as NC State's head coach following a successful tenure at East Carolina.
