MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Elon men's golf team started its 2025 fall season on the right foot before inclement weather halted first-round play at the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate on Sunday afternoon.
The Phoenix was tied for third at 5-under-par through 14-16 holes played at Grand Dunes Golf Resort Club when tournament officials stopped play and ultimately suspended the first round around the 4 p.m. ET hour. The remainder of the first round will resume at 9:30 a.m. ET Monday with play rolling into the second round at approximately 10:30 a.m. ET.
Three Phoenix are inside the top 25 individually with 2-4 holes to go in the first round, highlighted by freshman
William Carr, who sunk four birdies – including three on the way to a front-nine 33 – through 15 holes played and is tied for third place at 4-under. Junior
Jack Wieler is tied for 15th at 2-under through 14, while Carr's classmate
Martin Saquicoray is in 25th at even par.
Saquicoray – one of four freshmen in the Elon lineup alongside Carr,
Dylan Lewis and
Drew Yeagley – rebounded from a +3 start through six holes with four birdies between holes 7-13.
