RICHMOND, Va. – Elon redshirt
freshman quarterback Landen Clark was honored as the CAA Rookie of the Week
following the Phoenix's home-opening win against Davidson, as the conference released its weekly football awards Monday.Â
Â
Clark helped the Phoenix to
its first win of the season in a 55-7 rout of the Davidson Wildcats. In just one half of play, Clark compiled 284 yards of offense and four touchdowns. The Phoenix piled up 41 first-half points and 31 points in the second quarter alone to pull away from the Wildcats. Â
Â
The Radford, Virginia, native finished the ballgame with a career-high 247 yards through the air and three passing touchdowns. All three passing touchdowns came in the second quarter, a pair of them to
Landyn Backey and one to
Isaiah Fuhrmann. Clark was also productive on the ground, capping the Phoenix's first drive of the night with a rushing touchdown from one yard out to take an early advantage.
Â
This is Clark's first weekly conference award. He is Elon's firstÂ
freshman quarterback to be awarded the CAA Rookie of the Week honor since Davis Cheek in 2017. Â
Â
Clark and the Phoenix return to the gridiron this Saturday at Western Carolina. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. ET in Cullowhee.
