Elon Takes Down Hofstra On Road

Chandler Cuthrell’s 23 Points Pace Four Double-Figure Scorers

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Elon men's basketball team picked up a key Coastal Athletic Association road win on Saturday afternoon, holding off Hofstra for an 89-85 victory at David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.

Elon (12-7, 4-2 CAA) led for much of the afternoon and carried a 43-35 advantage into halftime before withstanding a strong second-half push from the Pride. The Phoenix shot 52% (29-of-56) from the floor and went 22-of-27 at the free throw line, helping seal the win late after Hofstra trimmed the margin to one possession in the final minutes.

Chandler Cuthrell paced Elon with a team-high 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting while going 8-of-9 at the foul line. Ja'Juan Carr added a strong all-around effort and led the Phoenix with six assists as Elon finished with 22 assists on 29 made field goals. Four Phoenix finished with double-figure points including Cuthrell, Bryson Cokley (19 points), Kacper Klaczek (15) and Carr (11).

Hofstra (13-6, 4-2 CAA) was led by Cruz Davis, who poured in a game-high 33 points on 11-of-22 shooting and a perfect 7-of-7 mark at the stripe. The Pride knocked down 13 3-pointers and closed within striking distance multiple times in the second half.

Elon finished the day with just seven turnovers – two days after committing a season-high 18 in a loss at Northeastern – and totaled 40 paint points. The Phoenix made 11 of 12 free throw attempts in the final 3:50 of the contest to put the Pride away.

NOTES
