WINSTON-SALEM – The Elon University women's track and field team returned to competition Saturday at the Mondo College Invitational, hosted at the JDL Fast Track Complex.
The Phoenix saw three athletes etch their names into the program's top-10 list, led by
Jenna Gilman, who posted a school-record time of 1:32.38 to finish sixth overall.
Gabi Walker followed in seventh with a time of 1:34.19, now the third-fastest performance in school history, while
Grace Lavelle placed 10th with a time of 1:37.95. Lavelle also joined Gilman and Walker on the program's top-10 performance list.
Adriana Clarke won the weight throw as the junior recorded a new personal-best toss of 18.81 meters, moving into the No. 2 spot on Elon's all-time list.
Grace Wager also finished among the top 10 in the event with a throw of 14.28 meters. Clark added a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 12.54 meters.
Mia Stimpson captured first place in the triple jump as the sophomore earned medalist honors with a personal-best leap of 11.62 meters. Elon added another event winner in the high jump as
Eloise Mulready earned gold after clearing 1.68 meters.
Mya Lee set a new personal best in the 60 meters, posting a time of 7.66 seconds to record the fourth-best performance in school history. She finished eighth overall in the event.
Ja'mia Johnson clocked a season-best time of 8.87 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, narrowly missing her personal record of 8.83.
Duna Viñals placed third overall in the 400 meters with a time of 57.42 to pace the Maroon and Gold.
Elon's 4x400-meter relay team of
Mary Sollars, Viñals,
Amelie Meier and
Olivia Waymer closed out the meet for the Phoenix, posting a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:57.60.
ON DECK
The Phoenix is scheduled to compete at three meets next weekend, with groups traveling to the Hokie Invitational (Jan. 23-24), the Liberty Open (Jan. 23-24) and the JDL Banked Is Better Invitational (Jan. 25).
