Phoenix To Compete At Liberty, Virginia Tech

ELON – The Elon University women's track and field team is scheduled to have competitors at a pair of meets this weekend, with a group heading to the Liberty Open in Lynchburg, Virginia, on Friday and selected members of the distance squad racing at the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Virginia, on Friday and Saturday.

PERSONAL, SCHOOL RECORDS SHINE FOR PHOENIX AT MONDO COLLEGE INVITATIONAL
  • Elon restarted its indoor season last Saturday at the Mondo College Invitational at the JDL Fast Track, highlighted by several personal records and a school record.
  • Jenna Gilman broke the Phoenix's school record in the 600 meters with a time of 1:32.48 in her first race of the year. The Easton, Mass., native placed sixth overall in her race.
  • Adriana Clarke captured the weight throw title after the junior recorded a personal-best toss of 18.81 meters, moving into the No. 2 spot on Elon's all-time list.
  • Mia Stimpson also claimed gold in the triple jump, earning medalist honors with a personal-best leap of 11.62 meters.
  • Eloise Mulready rounded out the event victories for the Phoenix, winning the high jump with a mark of 1.68 meters.
 
ELITE UNDER ELLISTON
  • Elon Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Mark Elliston is in his 20th season at the helm of the Phoenix. Under his guidance, Elon has captured a combined seven CAA titles in indoor and outdoor track & field, along with four runner-up finishes.
  • A six-time CAA Women's Track & Field Coach of the Year, Elliston and his staff coached 10 All-CAA honorees at last year's indoor championships, including two event champions. The Phoenix also saw three school records fall and several program top-10 marks added during the season.
 
ON DECK
The Phoenix return to Liberty for the third time this season, competing at the Brant Tolsma Elite Invitational on Jan. 30–31.
