LYNCHBURG, Va. – Junior
Katie Blount became the second Phoenix distance runner to set a school record in as many meets as the Elon University women's track and field team competed Friday at the Liberty Open, hosted at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
Blount help the Phoenix dominate the 3,000-meters as the Atlanta native won the event with a personal and school-record time of 9:18.51, breaking the previous school-record by over six seconds. Junior
Hannah Weber followed in second with a personal best of 9:48.13, while Elon also claimed third and fourth place with junior Abigail Beville (9:51.02) and junior
Quinn Smith (9:54.59).
Overall, the Phoenix saw 10 student-athletes set new personal bests throughout the meet, with junior
Jenna Gilman and sophomore
Isabella Johnson moving up on the Elon Top-10 lists in the 800 meters and shot put, respectively. Gilman placed fifth in the 800 with a personal best time of 2:12.92, moving into sixth on Elon's Top-10 indoor 800-meter performances list. Johnson placed third in the shot put with a personal best throw of 14.23 meters, moving into fourth on Elon's Top-10 Indoor shot put performances list.
Additionally, sophomore
Winter Oaster finished second in the mile with a personal best time of 5:03.51. Senior
Julia Bell placed seventh in 5:10.31, followed by junior
Cami Glebocki, who finished eighth with a personal best of 5:11.08. Oaster also added a personal best in the 1000 meters, finishing in 3:04.36.
Senior
Ja'mia Johnson and sophomore
Mia Stimpson both set personal bests in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries. Johnson placed third in the preliminary round with a time of 8.79 seconds before finishing sixth in the finals (8.86). Stimpson qualified eighth with a personal best of 8.93 seconds and then finished seventh in the finals with another personal best of 8.90.
Elon's 4x400-meter relay team of
Teri Pridgen,
Mary Sollars,
Olivia Waymer and Duna Viñals closed out the meet with an eighth-place finish in 3:55.07.
