Elon Triumphs Over Tribe

Five Phoenix Score Double Figures, Elon Rallies For 79-76 Win

ELON – Ned Hull scored a career-high 14 points and knocked down four 3-pointers as the Elon men's basketball team rallied in the second half to defeat William & Mary 79-76 on Thursday night in front of a season-high crowd of 1,815 fans at Schar Center.

The Phoenix erased a seven-point halftime deficit to improve to 13-9 overall and 5-4 in Coastal Athletic Association play. Hull was one of five Elon players to score in double figures, joining Chandler Cuthrell, who posted a game-high 18 points, along with Bryson Cokley (14), Isaac Harrell (13) and Randall Pettus II (12).

After allowing the Tribe (14-7, 5-4) to shoot 54.5% (18 of 33) from the floor and hit seven 3-pointers in the first half, Elon clamped down defensively after the break, holding William & Mary to 36% shooting (9 of 25) over the final 20 minutes.

Hull connected on three of his four triples during a six-minute stretch in the second half to help spark the comeback.

Elon took its first lead since the 13:06 mark of the first half when Ja'Juan Carr finished a tough layup with 4:36 remaining to make it 71-70. William & Mary answered on the ensuing possession with a 3-pointer by Ryan Jackson, who led the Tribe with 13 points. Cuthrell tied the game at 73-73 with 3:31 left before Cokley gave Elon the lead for good with a steal and fast-break layup. Cuthrell scored the Phoenix's final four points, and Elon came up with three defensive stops down the stretch to seal the win.
