GAME INFO – vs. CAMPBELL INSIDE THE MATCHUPS
at North Carolina A&T
  • Series record: Elon trails, 7-10
  • N.C. A&T (7-7, 0-3) has dropped three straight games since the start of CAA play, falling at home to UNCW and Northeastern before taking an 81-80 loss at Stony Brook last Saturday.
  • The Phoenix and Aggies have clashed 17 times prior on the hardwood, including seven times as conference foes since 2022-23.
  • Elon has won its past two road games against N.C. A&T, most recently a 75-67 affair on Jan. 2, 2025, last season.
vs. Campbell
  • Series record: Elon leads, 25-16
  • Campbell (8-8, 2-1) opened CAA play with a loss to Hofstra but has since won two straight at Monmouth and Northeastern.
  • The Fighting Camels will host Hampton in Buies Creek on Thursday night before turning the page to Saturday's contest in Elon.
  • Elon owns a nine-game advantage over Campbell in a series that includes more than 40 games but is just 1-3 against the Fighting Camels since they joined the CAA in 2023-24. That lone win came at home last season, an 81-68 effort on Jan. 13, 2025.
  • Campbell is 1-8 in true road games this season, but those nine opponents include high-major squads in Wisconsin, West Virginia, Wake Forest, Penn State, Gonzaga and Minnesota.

STARTING FIVE
1. Something To Prove
Picked 12th out of 13 teams in the CAA Preseason Coaches' Poll, Elon entered conference play with plenty of motivation and momentum. The Phoenix went 1-1 in its opening week of league action at home, topping Northeastern 103-91 before taking an 85-81 loss to College of Charleston. Elon is one of six CAA programs to notch at least eight nonconference wins this season – including a 4-1 stretch to close that slate – and will look to keep building upon that as it seeks its first winning conference record since the 2016-17 season.

2. Well-Oiled Machine
Elon's offense has piled up points in multiple ways this season, making the Phoenix a dangerous matchup on any night in CAA play. Elon leads the conference and ranks 41st nationally in scoring offense at 86.7 points per game – the program hasn't averaged more than 75.9 PPG in any of its previous 26 Division I seasons dating back to 1999 – and has topped 90 points five times, including 103 in its CAA opener against Northeastern on Dec. 29. The Phoenix is shooting 58.1% on 2-point field goals and averaging 39.2 points in the paint, with back-to-back outings of 40-plus to start conference action. The outside shot has also proved deadly, as Elon leads the CAA with 9.8 made 3-pointers per game while shooting 35.1% from long range.

3. Leading Role
In the middle of Elon's high-powered offense is graduate forward Chandler Cuthrell, who has emerged as one of the nation's most productive scorers at 21.3 points per game (12th nationally) in his first and only season with the Phoenix. A collegiate journeyman with previous stops at Odessa, UTSA and Purdue Fort Wayne, Cuthrell arrived at Elon with a career scoring average of 6.1 points per game but has developed into a consistent threat, recording 11 20-point performances in 15 contests. The 6-foot-8 forward is shooting 59.6% on 2-point field goals and 52.6% from the floor, the latter ranking second in the CAA. He's also done plenty of his damage at the free-throw line, leading the league and ranking 17th nationally with 114 attempts while converting 70.2% (80 of 114).

Named to the early-season Lou Henson Award Watch List – presented annually to the nation's top mid-major player – Cuthrell is one of just four players in Division I averaging at least 21.0 points (21.3) and 6.0 rebounds (6.7), joining Duke's Cameron Boozer, BYU's AJ Dybantsa and Northeastern's Nick Martinelli.

4. Swiss Polish-Army Knife
Fellow graduate forward Kacper Klaczek is the Phoenix's most versatile threat, and he put that on full display during Elon's 103-91 win against Northeastern in last Monday's CAA opener. Klaczek stuffed the box score with a career-high 28 points on 10-of-12 shooting to go with 12 rebounds and five assists, making him one of only four Division I players to post that stat line or better in a game this season. Although he was disrupted in Elon's loss to Charleston on New Year's Eve, Klaczek was the catalyst of the Phoenix's 5-1 stretch between Dec. 6-29, shooting 74% from the field (37 of 50) while averaging 17.2 points per game. The Chorzow, Poland, native is averaging 12.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists to go along with 1.0 block and 1.0 steal per contest.

5. The Vet & The Rook
Elon has found success and poise from two newcomers at the point guard position in graduate Ja'Juan Carr and freshman DeMarco Johnson. Carr – a former UNCW Seahawk who went on to win 74 games in three seasons (2022–25) at UNC Pembroke – leads the CAA in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.18) and has totaled 16 assists against only two turnovers across the Phoenix's first two conference games. Johnson, a Long Beach, California, native, has flashed his upside while averaging 4.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 17.7 minutes off the bench this season. The rookie has recorded six or more assists three times, most recently at Virginia Tech, and has added 13 steals and five blocks on the defensive end.

UP NEXT
Elon treks north for a two-game road swing at Northeastern on Jan. 15 and Hofstra on Jan. 17.
