RICHMOND, Va. – Elon goalkeeper
Drew Hartman was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday as the conference unveiled its weekly men's soccer awards.
Hartman anchored Elon's defense in a 0-0 tie Saturday night against No. 15 Wake Forest at Rudd Field. The goalkeeper made three saves to keep his second straight clean sheet against a ranked opponent. He was also in goal Oct. 17 in a shutout over No. 20 UNCW.
The shutout was Hartman's second against an ACC opponent this season after also blanking Duke in a Sept. 25 road victory. It was Hartman's fifth shutout overall on the campaign.
Elon's defense limited the Demon Deacons to just eight total shot attempts on the night. The Phoenix became the first team to hold Wake Forest off the scoreboard since Oct. 2.
Hartman is the second Phoenix to take home CAA Defensive Player of the Week this season, joining
Joe Taylor, who earned the honor in back-to-back weeks on Sept. 28 and Oct. 5.
The Phoenix concludes its regular season Saturday night at Rudd against Campbell. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
