Phoenix Travels To Boston, Faces Northeastern

Elon Opens Series Friday Versus Huskies

ELON – The Elon volleyball team travels to Boston for its CAA series at Northeastern this weekend. The Phoenix (6-10, 3-3 CAA) and the Huskies (4-10, 2-4 CAA) begin the two-match slate on Friday at the Cabot Center.

SERIES HISTORY
  • The Huskies hold an 18-5 advantage all-time over the Phoenix in a series dating back to 2012. Northeastern has won nine straight against the Maroon and Gold, including four straight in Boston.
  • Last season, the Huskies won both matches at Schar Center, defeating the Phoenix in five sets in the opener before closing out the series in straight sets. Caroline Berlekamp totaled 14 kills while hitting .290 over the two matches and led the Phoenix with six total blocks.
  • Elon's last win in the series came in 2019, when the Phoenix earned a five-set victory over the Huskies at the CAA Tournament. Elon is 0-10 all-time against Northeastern in Boston.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • Elon split its home CAA series against Stony Brook last weekend at Schar Center. The Phoenix opened the weekend with a 3-1 victory on Friday before the Seawolves answered with a 3-1 win in Saturday's finale.
  • Anna Sewell led the Phoenix offensively over the two matches with 28 kills, averaging 3.50 kills per set while hitting .294. She posted 11 kills in Friday's win before recording a career-high 17 kills on a .353 attack percentage Saturday.
  • Berlekamp was highly efficient in the series, totaling 15 kills on a .448 attack percentage. She highlighted Friday's win with a season-high 12 kills and no errors on 16 swings for a .750 hitting percentage.
  • The setter tandem of April Rice and Kayla Palmer combined for 61 assists over the weekend. Rice totaled 31 assists, while Palmer added 30 assists, 22 digs and three service aces.
 
MILESTONE WATCH
  • Cameron Lanier surpassed 1,000 career points during the Stony Brook series and enters the weekend with 1,002 career points. The senior outside hitter is also 20 kills shy of 900 for her career and one dig away from 350.
  • Casey Brower enters the weekend with 492 career digs, leaving her just eight away from the 500-dig milestone. She has also reached 100 career assists.
  • Palmer has totaled 919 career assists and sits 81 away from 1,000, while Rice is just 21 assists shy of 800 for her career.
 
PHOENIX FINDING ANOTHER GEAR IN CAA PLAY
  • Through six CAA matches, Elon is hitting .204 while holding opponents to a .141 attack percentage. Both marks are improvements from the Phoenix's .186 overall hitting percentage and .205 opponent hitting percentage this season.
  • Elon is averaging 12.60 kills and 11.30 assists per set in conference play, compared with 11.72 kills and 10.79 assists per set overall.
  • The Phoenix is also averaging 13.70 digs per set in league action, nearly one dig better than its season average of 12.71.
  • Elon's 3-3 CAA record is tied for fourth in the league standings with Towson and Stony Brook. The Phoenix's three conference wins are tied for the third-most in the CAA.
 
PHOENIX BY THE NUMBERS
  • Lanier leads the Phoenix with 203 kills, averaging 3.50 per set. The senior ranks fifth in the CAA in kills per set and also sits fifth in the league with 4.01 points per set. Lanier has totaled a team-best 232.5 points this season.
  • Sewell ranks second on the squad with 154 kills at 2.70 per set and has totaled 167.5 points. Catherine Rucker is third with 93 kills while hitting .305.
  • Berlekamp leads Elon with a .315 attack percentage, ranking ninth in the CAA, while Rucker ranks 10th at .305. Berlekamp also leads the Phoenix with 53 total blocks, followed by Rucker with 50 and Allie Schultz with 40.
  • Palmer leads Elon with 269 assists at 4.64 per set, while Rice has recorded 261 assists at 4.50 per set. Palmer also paces the Phoenix with 22 service aces, averaging 0.38 per set to rank eighth in the CAA.
  • Defensively, Brower has a team-high 178 digs, averaging 3.07 per set to rank sixth in the CAA. Freshman Lindsey Murphy is second with 130 digs, followed by Lanier with 111.
 
SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN (4-10, 2-4 CAA)
  • Northeastern enters the weekend with a 4-10 overall record and a 2-4 mark in CAA play. The Huskies swept a home series against N.C. A&T before dropping both matches of their road series at UNCW last weekend.
  • The Huskies went 9-16 last season, including a 5-11 record in CAA play. Northeastern was picked to finish seventh in the 2026 CAA preseason poll.
  • Emma Rowell leads the Northeastern offense with 181 kills, averaging 3.18 per set on a .246 attack percentage. Cayenne Ceman ranks second on the team with 122 kills at 2.30 per set.
  • Middle blocker Beatrice Gennari has been one of the CAA's most efficient attackers, hitting .447 with 96 kills and only 12 errors on 188 swings. She also leads the Huskies with 57 total blocks at 0.98 per set.
  • Northeastern uses multiple setters, led by Arina Sosinovica with 345 assists at 6.05 per set. Sofia King has added 188 assists at 4.59 per set. Iris Canko anchors the back row with a team-high 153 digs at 3.19 per set.
 
ELON AT A GLANCE
  • The Phoenix is in its 55th season of volleyball and 28th campaign at the Division I level in 2026.
  • Elon retained 11 letterwinners from last season, including several players who started at least one match. The Phoenix also welcomes four first-year athletes into the fold for 2026.
  • Elon returns 54% of its kills, 98% of its assists, 66% of its digs and 57% of its points scored from 2025.
  • Head coach Matt Troy is in his second season at the helm of the Phoenix volleyball program. Troy helped lead Elon to its best conference winning percentage since 2021 last season, highlighted by the Phoenix's first road win over perennial CAA power Towson since 2021.
