WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Bryson Cokley drilled a go-ahead 3-pointer with two seconds remaining and scored a career-high 29 points as Elon knocked off William & Mary 81-78 on Saturday afternoon at Kaplan Arena, snapping a four-game losing streak.
Cokley finished 8-of-13 from the field, hit 7-of-11 from beyond the arc and went 6-for-6 at the free throw line for the Phoenix (14-13, 6-8 CAA), who secured a regular-season sweep of the Tribe and earned just their third road win in program history at William & Mary. Elon improved to 2-11 all-time in Williamsburg and previously beat the Tribe 79-76 at home on Jan. 29.
After William & Mary tied the game at 78 on a fast-break layup with 30 seconds left, Elon worked the clock down before Cokley connected from deep on the left wing for the decisive basket. The Tribe missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.
Elon led 43-36 at halftime and pushed its advantage to as many as 11 early in the second half before the Tribe rallied. William & Mary used a series of second-chance opportunities and transition scores to erase the deficit and tie the game multiple times over the final eight minutes.
Chandler Cuthrell added 17 points, eight rebounds and a career-high five assists for Elon, while
Isaac Harrell scored 14 points with five boards and three assists. The Phoenix shot 43.5% from the floor and made 11-of-25 from 3-point range, while also converting 16-of-22 at the line. Elon assisted on 16 field goals and forced 11 turnovers.
Kyle Pulliam led William & Mary (16-10, 7-7) with 18 points, including three 3-pointers. Reese Miller added 15 points and Tunde Vahlberg Fasasi and Jo'el Emanuel scored 13 apiece. The Tribe shot 46.6% overall but went just 6-of-24 from long distance.
William & Mary held a 39-31 rebounding edge and outscored Elon 38-32 in the paint, but the Phoenix countered with a 15-6 advantage in points off turnovers and hit timely perimeter shots down the stretch.
