ELON – North Carolina A&T shot a blistering 66.7% from the field and placed five players in double figures to defeat the Elon men's basketball team 102-82 on Saturday night at Schar Center, earning a regular-season split between the Triad foes.
The Aggies (11-15, 4-11 CAA) never trailed after the midpoint of the first half and built a 53-41 advantage at the break behind 61.1% shooting over the opening 20 minutes. North Carolina A&T followed that by connecting on 76.2% of its attempts in the second half, stretching the margin to as many as 22.
Lewis Walker led the Aggies with 24 points on 7-of-11 shooting and a perfect 10-for-10 effort at the free throw line. Trent Middleton Jr. added 24 points and eight assists, while Zamoku Weluche-Ume recorded 19 points and 10 rebounds. Mujahiid Burton chipped in 17 points as A&T finished 38-of-57 from the floor.
Elon (14-14, 6-9) was paced by
Bryson Cokley's 19 points, including four 3-pointers.
Chandler Cuthrell added 18 points and six rebounds, and
Randall Pettus II contributed 14 points with four 3-pointers.
The Phoenix shot 42.4% from the field and 35.5% from beyond the arc but could not consistently slow the Aggies in the paint, where A&T held a 46-32 scoring edge.
After Elon briefly grabbed a 16-15 lead midway through the first half, the Aggies responded with a sustained run to push the margin to double digits. A&T led for 38:29 of the contest.
