DORADO, Puerto Rico – Freshman
Dylan Lewis shot a team-best 4-under-par 68 to lead the Elon men's golf team during the second round of the Dorado Beach Collegiate on Monday.
The Phoenix (+1, 577) led the 15-team field after 18 holes but slipped to fourth after posting a 1-over-par 289 in round two.
Elon enters the final round eight shots behind tournament leader Stetson (-7). Southern Miss (-3) and UNCG (-1) sit second and third, respectively, through 36 holes.
Lewis climbed 23 spots into a tie for fourth after matching his collegiate 18-hole low with the 68. Starting on No. 3, he moved to 3-under through six holes and added birdies on Nos. 13 and 16 to offset his lone bogey on 14.
Fellow freshman
Drew Yeagley (-1) remained in the top 10, sitting seventh after a 1-over 73.
Bence Somogyi, competing as an individual, carded a 2-under 70 — the second-best round by a Phoenix on Monday — to move into a tie for 23rd.
Jack Wieler (+1) is tied for 17th and
Landon Durham (+3) is tied for 28th, giving Elon four golfers inside the top 30 entering Tuesday's final round.
