Elon Heads North For Northeastern Series

Phoenix Looks To End Four-Game Skid

ELON – After a close loss to East Carolina on Tuesday, Elon baseball (9-11, 2-4 CAA) heads north to face Northeastern (9-8, 5-1 CAA) in a weekend CAA series.
The three-game set marks the first of two weekend matchups this season between the Phoenix and a member of the CAA's North Division, the other being next week's home series against Monmouth on March 27-29.
Elon has struggled in Boston in recent years, dropping four straight games to the Huskies on the road. The Phoenix's last win at Northeastern came in 2022 against current New York Yankees starter Cam Schlittler.
All three games will be streamed on FloCollege.

  • Game 2: TBD vs. TBD
  • Game 3: TBD vs. TBD

QUICK HITS
  • Northeastern leads the all-time series 16-13, with Elon having lost five straight meetings. That stretch includes two losses in the 2023 CAA Tournament and a weekend series sweep in 2024.
  • Elon enters the weekend on a four-game losing streak following a 4-3 defeat to East Carolina on Tuesday. The Phoenix nearly completed a late-inning comeback in the ninth after plating all three runs in the eighth, but came up just short.
  • RJ Latkowski has emerged as one of the top closers in college baseball this season. He leads the Phoenix and ranks fifth nationally with five saves, while posting a 0.79 ERA across 10 appearances.
  • Sophomore left-hander Owen Winebarger was named CAA Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday. He allowed just five baserunners and struck out four in a win over NC State, then followed with a relief appearance at UNCW, giving up two hits and one earned run over three innings.
  • The bullpen trio of Sam Nomura, Latkowski, and Mike Staiano has been among the most effective in the nation. The group has combined for more than 38 innings of relief through 19 games, allowing just six total runs.
  • Senior Jackson Alford has continued his All-CAA form from 2025, leading the Phoenix in several offensive categories through 20 games. He recorded his seventh multi-hit game of the season against ECU and leads the CAA—and ranks fifth nationally—with 18 stolen bases.
  • Outfielder Brian DuRoff helped power the offense last week, driving in both runs in Elon's win over NC State with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly. The former Saint Mary's Gael leads the team with 15 RBIs and has reached base in 19 of Elon's 20 games.
  • On the mound, veteran Brian Strange has solidified his role as Elon's Friday night starter. Despite a no-decision against UNCW, he delivered another strong outing, allowing just four hits, marking his fourth start this season with four or fewer hits allowed. He is currently tied for the CAA lead with 34 strikeouts.
  • Following a 25-32 (13-14 CAA) season in 2025, Elon was picked in a tie for fourth in the 2026 CAA preseason poll.
  • Head coach Mike Kennedy is in his 30th season at the helm of Elon Baseball. After earning 25 wins last season, Kennedy has led the Phoenix to 24 seasons of 25 wins or more. Kennedy is a 2025-26 Elon Sports Hall of Fame inductee.
