QUICK HITS
  • Elon trails the all-time series against North Carolina 9-42. The Phoenix has not won in Chapel Hill since 2005.
  • In the last two matchups with UNC, Elon has been bested by three total runs. In the last meeting at Boshamer Stadium, the Phoenix surged with a late rally but fell short by the score of 8-7.
  • Last Saturday against Fairfield, Elon combined to throw the first no-hitter of the 2026 Division I baseball season. Pitchers Aidan Stieglitz, Mike Staiano and RJ Latkowski combined to toss the first Elon no-hitter since 2017.
  • For his effort against Fairfield, Stieglitz was named CAA Pitcher of the Week on Monday by the conference. Stieglitz retired the first 23 batters he faced in his first career start and finished the outing with seven strikeouts.
  • Jackson Alford has been a steady presence at the top of the Elon lineup. Coming into the week, Alford is in several top-10 conference categories including stolen bases (t-2nd), runs scored (3rd), batting average (5th), slugging percentage (7th), OPS (8th), and hits (8th).
  • Sophomore left-hander Owen Winebarger is set to make his second midweek start of the season on Tuesday. He pitched a less than an inning against UNC last season but struck out a batter and allowed no runs or hits.
  • Following a 25-32 (13-14 CAA) season in 2025, Elon was picked in a tie for fourth in the 2026 CAA preseason poll.
  • Head coach Mike Kennedy enters his 30th season at the helm of Elon Baseball. After earning 25 wins last season, Kennedy has led the Phoenix to 24 seasons of 25 wins or more. Kennedy is a 2025-26 Elon Sports Hall of Fame inductee. With 888 career wins, Kennedy is 17th among active, Division I head baseball coaches.
