NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Elon men's golf team ended the first day of the Surf Club Invitational in second place at 12-under par with three holes remaining in Round 2 at Surf Golf & Beach Club. Second-round action was suspended due to darkness at 7 p.m. ET and will resume at 9 a.m. ET Tuesday.
The Phoenix trails only Georgia State (-19), while four Elon players are among the top 26 individually.
Elon shot a 4-under 280 to finish the opening round in fifth place before making a move through the first 15–16 holes of the second round. All five Phoenix were under par on the front nine of the first round, led by 2-under 34s from
Landon Durham,
William Carr and
Jack Wieler.
Drew Yeagley carded Elon's lowest opening round with a 3-under 68, using a bogey-free back nine to move into a tie for seventh.
The second round began in similar fashion with Elon recording a collective 11 birdies on the front nine. Yeagley notched an eagle on the par-4 No. 16 for one of the Phoenix's final scores of the day before darkness halted play.
