ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C. – Elon men's golf closed out the Coastal Athletic Association Championship with a strong final round on Tuesday, finishing as runner-up after a 12-under 276 at Dataw Island Golf Club's Cotton Dike course.
The Phoenix posted a 54-hole total of 21-under 843 (280-287-276), securing second place behind UNCW (-38, 826). Charleston (-17), Campbell (-10) and Towson (-3) rounded out the top five in the 10-team field. The Seahawks' James Rico (-14) was the individual conference champion.
Elon's final round 276 was its lowest of the tournament and the second best round of the day, trailing only UNCW's 20-under 268.
Individually, freshman
Dylan Lewis paced Elon with a tie for fourth at 6-under 210 (71-69-70) to earn All-Championship Team honors. Lewis was steady throughout the championship and started Tuesday with a pair of birdies on holes 1 and 3 before notching a third on 17 to move inside the top five.
Landon Durham also finished under par for the tournament, tying for 10th at 4-under 212 (69-74-69). Durham bounced back from a 3-over 74 in the second round with his second 69 of the week in round three. The senior carded an eagle on hole 3 to highlight a day that included five additional birdies.
Fellow freshman
Drew Yeagley delivered Elon's low round of the day with a 6-under 66, vaulting 16 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 19th at 1-under 215 (78-71-66). Yeagley went bogey free throughout the final round to secure his ninth top-20 finish in an impressive rookie campaign.
William Carr tied for 22nd at 1-over 217 (71-75-71), while
Jack Wieler rounded out the lineup in a tie for 26th at 3-over 219 (69-73-77).
