Urbonaviciute Leads Elon In Heptathlon At Duke

Three Phoenix Freshmen Join Elon’s Heptathlon Top 10

DURHAM – The Elon women's track & field team wrapped up the heptathlon on Thursday at the Duke Invitational, highlighted by a strong showing from its freshman class at Morris Williams Stadium.
 
Freshman Greta Urbonaviciute led the Phoenix with a total of 4,906 points to finish 11th overall, moving into No. 4 all-time in Elon program history. Urbonaviciute compiled four personal-best performances across the two-day competition, including marks in the high jump, shot put, 200 meters and long jump.
 
Fellow freshmen Irene Blanco Garcia and Carolina Frada also etched their names into the program record book. Blanco Garcia placed 15th overall with 4,599 points, good for No. 6 all-time at Elon, while Frada finished 21st with 4,002 points to rank No. 10 in program history. Lizzie Lopez – who already stands No. 3 all-time in the heptathlon at Elon – added a 14th-place finish with 4,807 points.
 
In Thursday's final three events, Elon saw multiple personal-best efforts. Blanco Garcia posted a personal-best 5.52 meters (18'1.50") in the long jump to lead the Phoenix in the event, while Urbonaviciute added a personal-best leap of 5.31 meters (17'5.25").
 
Urbonaviciute paced Elon in the javelin throw with a mark of 35.96 meters (118'0"), finishing fifth overall. Lopez, Blanco Garcia and Frada each recorded personal bests in the event.
 
The Phoenix closed the heptathlon with the 800 meters, where Lopez turned in a personal-best time of 2:22.93 to finish eighth overall. Blanco Garcia and Frada also added solid efforts in the final event.
