ELON – Four Elon football players were named to the Phil Steele Preseason FCS All-America team, the organization announced Monday. Kicker Luke Barnes was named to the first team, linebacker Brodie Carroll and defensive back Tony Hart III were named to the third team and offensive lineman Tim Hogan was selected to the fourth team.
 
The All-American recognition is the third for Barnes in the preseason. An All-America honorable mention by the Associated Press in 2025, Barnes enters the 2026 season following a breakout campaign in which he converted 14 of 15 field-goal attempts from inside 50 yards and made all 40 of his extra-point attempts.
 
Carroll led Elon with 104 tackles during his first season with the Phoenix in 2025, earning an All-CAA second team selection. He also recorded 9.5 tackles for loss and enters the 2026 season with a streak of three consecutive games with double-digit tackles. Carroll joined Barnes as a Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-American in July and earned a spot on the Buck Buchanan Award Preseason Watch List.
 
Tony Hart III was an All-CAA third team selection last season and was third on the Phoenix in tackles in 2025 with 82. Hart helped play a role in four Phoenix turnovers last season with two interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
 
Tim Hogan is Elon's most experienced returning lineman, having made 18 starts over the last two seasons at right guard and was a member of the All-CAA second team last season.
 
The organization also recognized eight Phoenix on its All-CAA preseason squad, including five first team selections – Barnes, Carroll, Hart, Hogan and fullback/halfback Dylan Magazu. Running back Jimmyll Williams and wide receiver Landyn Backey earned spots on the second team, while defensive lineman Dillon Pardue was named to the third team.
