ELON – Elon men's golfer Dylan Lewis will compete in the 126th U.S. Amateur Championship beginning Monday, Aug. 10, in Pennsylvania at both Merion Golf Club in Ardmore and Philadelphia Country Club in Gladwyne.
 
Lewis earned his place in the championship by shooting a 3-under-par 69 at a U.S. Amateur final qualifying site at Landfall Country Club in his hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina, on July 20.
 
The rising sophomore is coming off an impressive freshman season with the Phoenix, posting a 71.60 scoring average across 30 rounds and recording four top-10 finishes. Lewis earned CAA All-Championship Team honors after tying for fourth at the conference championship with a 6-under-par 210.
 
The U.S. Amateur begins with two rounds of stroke play featuring a field of 312 competitors. Each golfer will play one round at Merion and one at Philadelphia Country Club, with the 64 lowest 36-hole scores advancing to match play. A playoff will be conducted if necessary to determine the final spots in the 64-player bracket. Match play begins Wednesday and continues through Sunday's 36-hole championship match.
 
Lewis is scheduled to tee off at 9:27 a.m. ET Monday before beginning his second round at 2:42 p.m. ET Tuesday.
 
A year ago, Elon alumnus Garrett Risner became the first Phoenix golfer to advance to match play at the U.S. Amateur. Lewis will look to become the second when stroke play gets underway Monday.
