ELON – Elon redshirt junior linebacker Brodie Carroll was named the Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week following a career performance in the Phoenix's 24-21 CAA victory over Sacred Heart on Saturday night.
 
Carroll is the first Elon defender to earn Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week honors since Marcus Willoughby in September 2019.
 
The Haymarket, Virginia, native recorded a career-high 16 tackles against Sacred Heart, including 11 solo stops, while adding a sack and two pass breakups to lead the Elon defense.
 
Carroll was particularly impactful on Sacred Heart's final possession as the Pioneers looked to tie the game. He broke up a pass on the first play of the drive and contributed to three more stops as Elon kept Sacred Heart from reaching field-goal range to secure the three-point victory.
 
The performance continued a strong start to the season for Carroll, a preseason All-American and Preseason Buck Buchanan Award Watch List recipient. His 16-tackle effort against the Pioneers marks five consecutive CAA games for Carroll with at least 10 tackles.
 
Carroll and the Phoenix return to action Saturday when Elon closes its home stand against Maine. Kickoff from Rhodes Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m.
