RICHMOND, Va. – Elon redshirt junior linebacker Brodie Carroll and redshirt freshman quarterback Elijah Guttman earned CAA Football weekly honors Monday. Carroll was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week, while Guttman earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors.
 
Carroll turned in a career performance to lead the Elon defense in the Phoenix's 24-21 CAA victory over Sacred Heart on Saturday night. The Haymarket, Virginia native recorded a career-high 16 tackles, including 11 solo stops, while adding a sack and two pass breakups.
 
Carroll played a key role on the Pioneers' final possession, breaking up a pass on the first play of the drive and contributing to three more stops as Elon kept Sacred Heart from reaching field-goal range.
 
Guttman made the most of his first career start on Saturday and accounted for all three Elon touchdowns in the victory. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native completed 12-of-19 passes for 142 yards and a touchdown while adding 17 yards and two scores on the ground.
 
After Sacred Heart took a 7-0 lead, Guttman answered with a 5-yard touchdown run to even the score. He later connected with Landyn Backey for a 19-yard touchdown before scoring on a 10-yard run in the final minute of the first half to give Elon a 21-14 advantage.
 
Carroll, Guttman and the Phoenix return to action Saturday when Elon finishes its home stand against Maine. Kickoff from Rhodes Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m.
