MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Elon men's golf team opened its 2026-27 season in impressive fashion Sunday, firing a 12-under-par 276 to take the first-round lead at the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate at Grande Dunes Golf Club.
 
Jack Wieler paced the Phoenix with a 6-under 66, while Dylan Lewis added a 5-under 67. Drew Yeagley carded a 1-under 71 and William Carr rounded out Elon's counting scores with an even-par 72. Landon Durham posted a 2-over 74.
 
ROUND ONE HIGHLIGHTS

• Wieler enters Monday's second round tied for second individually following his 6-under 66, one shot behind Lipscomb's Ciaran Murphy at 7-under. The senior made seven birdies against just one bogey, shooting 3-under on each side. After making the turn at 3-under, Wieler added four birdies over his final nine holes, including three over a four-hole stretch on Nos. 1, 3 and 4.
• Grande Dunes has continued to bring out Wieler's best golf. He earned a share of the individual title at the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate in 2024 before tying for third at the event last season.
• Lewis sits tied for fourth after opening with a 5-under 67. He made the turn at even par before catching fire over his final nine holes, carding a 5-under 31 with five birdies.
• Yeagley is tied for 28th after a 1-under 71. He opened his round with a 2-under 34 on Nos. 10-18, highlighted by four birdies, before playing his final nine in 1-over.
• Carr is tied for 44th following an even-par 72. He made the turn at even par and remained there after an eventful closing nine that included three birdies and three bogeys.
• Durham shot a 2-over 74 and is tied for 63rd. He made the turn at 5-over before surging back with a 3-under 33 over his final nine holes, recording three birdies without a bogey.
