Rounds 1-2

FLORENCE, S.C. -- Thanks to a four-under par score of 140 from Will DiIanni over two rounds, the Elon men's golf team opened its 2013-14 campaign in fifth place at the Springhill Suites Intercollegiate.  The Phoenix carded a team score of 574 (293-281), two-under par.

Will DiIanni tallied rounds of 69 and 71 on Monday on his way to a tie for seventh among the 65-golfer field.  He finished his 36 holes with 10 birdies and will enter Tuesday's final round just four strokes off the individual lead.

With a one-under par score of 143 (74-69), Jeff Krieger finished his first day of play in a tie for 14th.  Krieger also notched 10 birdies.

Elon's other three golfers in the tournament are all tied for 38th with a score of 148.  John Somers (76-72), Jack Adkins (74-74) and Jonathan DiIanni (79-69).  Adkins was one of three players in the field to card an eagle on day one.

With marks of eight-under 136, Wofford's Brannan Hudson and USC Upstate's Ryan Cornfield lead the individual field.

USC Upstate also paces all 12 teams in the event with a team score of 561 (284-277).  Between Elon and the top spot are Samford (287-282--569), host Francis Marion (286-284--570) and Wofford (287-285--572).
