ELON COLLEGE, NC - Lees-McRae College defeated the University of Charleston 3-2 (12-15, 15-12, 15-7, 8-15, 15-11) in the most entertaining match to win the Elon College/Team Connection Tournament to win the held on the campus of Elon College. The Lady Bobcats were led by Tournament MVP Jennifer Calderwood who tallied nine kills, three service aces and 16 digs. Megan Lynch and Maureen Arnold each added 11 kills. Traci Payne recorded 19 kills and 16 digs in the loss for the University of Charleston.
The Fightin' Christians split their two matches today defeating Fairmont St. 3-1 (15-11 ,4-15, 15-12, 15-11) and losing to Charleston 3-0 (6-15, 14-16, 7-15). Katie Ruoff, a member of the All-Tournament Team, tallied 13 kills against Fairmont and 18 versus the University of Charleston to lead Elon. Also contributing for the Fightin Christians was All-Tournament Team member Eli Mould. Mould registered five kills and nine digs in a win versus Fairmont and six kills and nine digs in the loss to the Golden Eagles. Maria DeAngelo added 12 kills versus Charleston and Emerald Zemedkun set 17 assists against the Lady Falcons.
In other matches, after dropping the first game 12-15 the Lady Falcons defeated St. Augustine's 3-1 (15-12, 15-10, 15-4). All-Tournament member Jennifer Confer led the way with 22 kills, as Sarah Hall collected 36 set assists. All-Tournament members Sheritta Wilson and Anastacia Sands led the Mighty Falcons with 17 and 13 kills respectively. The University of Charleston used a complete team effort to beat St. Augustine's 3-0 (15-3, 15-5, 15-5). All-Tournament member Mary Weisensee registered four set assists for the Golden Eagles behind the hitting of Maureen Arnold and the setting of Shelly Hetzel Lees-McRae defeated St.Augustine's 3-1 (15-3, 15-8, 13-15, 15-3). Arnold tallied eight kills and Hetzel accumulated 22 set assists.
In the night cap on Friday evening, Lees-McRae beat Fairmont St. 3-1 (13-15, 15-5, 15-5, 15-3). All-Tournament member Jenny McKnight collected 47 set assists for the Lady Bobcats.
