HIGH POINT, NC -- MacKenzie Sisson and Marissa Venuti netted goals as Elon knocked off High Point 2-0 in its Big South Conference opener on Wednesday at the Albion Millis Soccer Stadium. Sisson delivered the first Phoenix tally at the 18:18 mark of the first half off of an assist from Erin Morse. Along with their 1-0 lead, Elon (1-8, 1-0) held a 10-2 halftime advantage on shots.
Sisson helped to put Elon on the scoreboard again when she fed Venuti, who delivered an insurance goal at the 82:53 mark. Sisson and Christy Polansky both earned assists on the play.
Phoenix goalkeeper Sommer Cork made two saves while High Point (2-5-1, 0-1-1) goalie Cindy Watts grabbed seven saves.
Defending Big South champion Elon returns home for a 4 p.m. league match with conference preseason favorite Radford at Rudd Field on Friday.
