Elon Runs in First Big South Championships

BLACKSBURG, VA -- The Phoenix participated in their first-ever Big South championships on Sunday. In the meet, won by Liberty (176 points), the Phoenix finished eighth (3 points).

Elon's three points were acquired by placing seventh in the distance medley relay (Erin Wallace, 1200; Katie Miller, 800; Catherine Cameron, 400; Lillian Ciany, 1600) and eighth in the 1600-meter relay (Katie Miller, Janetta Tolliver, Royce Evans, Jessica Burgeson).

Liberty was followed by Radford (118 points), Coastal Carolina (95) and Charleston Southern (87). UNC Asheville (60.50) and Winthrop (53.50) placed fifth and sixth, while High Point (30) and Elon (3) rounded out the field.

At the tournament, Meredith Weavil was honored for her academic success. Weavil, a sophomore religion major, was named to the Big South All-Academic Team.

This was the first season that Elon has sponsored women's indoor track.
