DAVIDSON, NC -- Davidson's women's soccer team picked up their first win of the season, defeating Elon 1-0 on Sunday in Davidson. The loss drops the Phoenix to 1-5 on the year, while Davidson improves to 1-6 for the season.
A defensive battle ensued early in the first half, with the Wildcats's Leigh Anne Hoskins breaking away at the 38:36 mark to score the only goal of the game off a Tara Maloney free kick.
The Phoenix were limited to just five shots for the game, none of which found their way on goal. Elon keeper Kara Zagol tallied 11 saves in her 90 minutes in net. The Phoenix allowed 18 shots for the game. Elon held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks in the contest.
Elon will return to action on Saturday when they open up Big South play at Charleston Southern. The match begins at 11:00 am.
