WAYNESVILLE, NC -- The Elon's women's golf team shot a 302 in the second and final round of the Great Smokies Women's Collegiate Tournament to finish third (607) in the two-round tournament. The field was made up of 24 teams.

Western Carolina, the host, claimed the team crown with two rounds of 293 (586 overall), while Murray State placed second with a two-round total of 601. The top-five also included Methodist (612) and East Tennessee State (614).

The Phoenix also finished ahead of teams such as Xavier (622 - eighth place), Radford (635 - 13th), Appalachian State (641 - 14th), Marshll (642 - 15th) and Wofford (654 - T19th).

Becky Poindexter's score of 151 (75-76) made her Elon's top finisher, placing in a 14th place tie. Katie Knoepffler (77-75--152) placed in a tie for 18th, while Morgan Olds (79-74--153) finished tied for 24th. Sammy Sue Wilson (77-77--154) and Michelle Williams (76-78--154) finished in a tie for 27th.

This was the last fall tournament for the women's team. They will resume play in the spring.
