GREENVILLE, NC -- The East Carolina women's tennis team defeated Elon University today by a score of 7-0.

The Pirates were victorious in six singles matches as well as three doubles matches. The women defeated their opponents in straight sets in every singles match of the day.

Playing in the No.1 position, freshman Raluca Baicu defeated Jennifer Fulmer, 6-0, 6-1 and in the No.2 position junior Lyndall Jordan beat Diana Pulupa by a score of 6-4, 6-4. Junior Emily Kohl defeated Molly Cade, 6-1, 6-0 in the No.3 position and No.4 seeded freshman Cristina Meilicke won 7-6, 6-2 against her opponent Aubrey Rhoads.

The two seniors on the team were also victorious in their matches today. Meredith Spears beat Jessica Fischer by a score of 6-4, 6-0 in the No.5 position and No.6 seeded Andrea Terrill won 6-0, 6-2 against Kathleen Bee.

In doubles action, Spears and Kohl teamed up to defeat the duo of Fulmer and Cade by a score of 8-4 in the No. 1 position. In the No.2 doubles postion, Sierpinski and Jordan beat Pulupa and Rhoads, 8-3 and the team of Baicu and Meilike won 8-1 against Fisher and Bee in the No.3 seeded match-up.

The win improves the Pirates record to 1-1 while Elon falls to 0-1. The Phoenix will return home for a February 16 meeting with Cleveland State at 10:00 a.m.
