High Point Gets Past Men's Tennis

HIGH POINT, NC -- High Point won four of the six singles matches after dropping the doubles point to down Elon 4-3 in men's Big South tennis action Monday afternoon in High Point.

The Phoenix (10-9 overall, 2-3 Big South) got out to a quick start, claiming the doubles point with wins by Pramote Malasitt/Richard Dutton over Jakob Widange/Mikael Fahlgren (8-2) at number one and Nathan Lefevre/Mikael Houlst over Johan Dorfh/Bjorn Hagdahl (9-7) at number two. The team of Justin Roberson/Nick Belutty did not finish their match at number three doubles.

In singles action, Malasitt finished the regular season with a 13-7 mark after downing Widange 6-2, 7-5 at number one. Lefevre fell 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 to Dorfh at number two, finishing the season 15-5. Roberson (7-8) was downed 6-2, 6-0 by Fahlgren at number three and Houlst (16-3) defeated Hagdahl 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 at number four. Dutton (6-12) and Prelec (5-10) both dropped their matches at numbers five and six by the scores of 6-2, 6-0 and 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 respectively.

The win improves High Point to 9-10 overall and 3-4 in the Big South.

Elon will next play on Thursday when they host the Big South Championships. Pairings and times will be announced Tuesday night.
