WAYNESVILLE, NC -- Katie Knoepffler and Becky Poindexter each fired a four-over-par round of 76 to pace Elon to third place after the opening round of the 11-team Lady Catamount Intercollegiate Monday at Blue Ridge/Carolina Country Club.

Knoepffler (36-40--76) and Poindexter (38-38--76) share a team-leading 10th place in the 60-golfer field entering the second (and final) round on Tuesday. Lone Phoenix senior Laura Orlen carded a 39-38--77 for the 5,820-yard course to share 15th with teammate Sammy Sue Wilson (38-39--77).

Elon's Alison Mangini (37-41--78) also landed in the top 20, earning a share of 19th.

The Phoenix (306) trails leaders Coastal Carolina (294) and host Western Carolina (program-record 300), but leads Belmont (308), Radford (312), East Tennessee State (316), Evansville (320), Dayton (324), Wofford (326), Samford (328) and Gardner-Webb (329).
