Hockman, Phoenix Finish Second

GREENVILLE, NC -- The Phoenix men's golf squad shot a 310 for the final round of the 2003 Pirate Fall Intercollegiate Tournament to fall to second place, two strokes back, in the final standings after holding an eight stroke edge entering the day. James Hockman also lost his individual tournament lead by posting a final round 77 and finishing one stroke off the lead.

East Carolina put a round of 300 on the board to pass the Phoenix and claim the title with a final score of 882. The Phoenix finished with an overall score of 884. The top five also included Florida Atlantic (892), George Mason (894) and Methodist (895). Elon also finished ahead of Chattanooga (T-9th, 901) and The Citadel (12, 904) in the 18-team field.

Following Hockman for the Phoenix was Bennett Smith (T-13th, 221) who shot a final round 76. Also posting a final round 76 for Elon was Ryan Loucks who placed in a tie for 19th with a score of 222. Rounding out the Phoenix squad was J.D. McNeill (T-38th, 227) and Louis Rittberger (T-68th, 233).

Elon will return to the links next weekend at the ODU/Seascape Invitational hosted by Old Dominion in Kitty Hawk, NC.
