Phoenix Hands Lady Flames 7-0 Loss

LYNCHBURG, VA--The Phoenix posted six-consecutive straight-set singles victories, while sweeping all three doubles matches to record a 7-0 Big South Conference victory over Liberty, Wednesday afternoon, at the Esbenshade-Hershey Tennis Center.

In doubles play, Kelly Fleck and Jennifer Fulmer posted an 8-6 win over Andreea Cotuna and Ana GonzalesDorado at No.1. Melissa Holland and Elizabeth Kernodle coasted by Maria Solc and Alison Cho, 8-1. With the victory at No.3, Aubrey Rhoads and Cassie Martin completed the Phoenix sweep in doubles action as the pair defeated Christine Winner and Clara GonzalesDorado.

Fleck earned her fifth singles win of the season as she rolled past Cotuna, 6-4, 6-1 at No.1. Fulmer posted a 6-2, 6-0 score to defeat C. GonzalesDorado, while Kernodle continued the Phoenix sweep with a convincing, 6-3, 6-2 win over A. GonzalesDorado. Holland held Solc winless at No. 4 with a two-set score of 6-0, 6-0. Rhoads surpassed Cho, 6-3, 6-2 at No.5 and Kristofak got her second singles win at No. 6 by defeating Brooke Garman, 6-1, 6-2.

With the victory, the Phoenix raise their overall record to 4-6 on the season and 3-2 in the Big South, while the Lady Flames fall to 3-9 on the year and 0-4 in league play.

NEXT UP: Elon women's tennis will travel to Boone on Friday, March 4 to take on Appalachian State at 2:00 p.m.
