ELON, NC – Mike Richardson and Randi Patterson each scored to pace UNC Greensboro to a 2-0 Southern Conference men’s soccer victory over Elon Sunday afternoon at Rudd Field.
Richardson sank a goal at the contest’s 23:38 mark, thanks to an assist by Scott Jones. Patterson determined the final score when he found the net at 67:37 via assists from Brad McCurry and Adrian Worthen.
The Spartans (2-1 overall, 1-0 Southern Conference) out-shot the Phoenix (1-2, 0-1) by an 18-6 margin, including 8-3 in shots on goal. UNCG goalie Jay Benfield snagged three saves while Elon keeper Kyle Ostendorf logged six.
Patterson attempted a game-high five shots for the Spartans. Tim Sullivan led the Phoenix with three shots, including two on goal.
UNCG faces Virginia Commonwealth in the UNC Classic at 5 p.m. Friday in Chapel Hill. Elon hosts UNC Asheville at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Rudd Field.
