Elon Extinguishes Flames For Third-Straight Victory

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Elon pulled out victories in eight of nine matches to conquer Liberty 6-1 in a non-league men’s tennis contest Monday afternoon at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Facility, posting its third consecutive triumph.

The Phoenix (8-6) swept its way to the doubles point. Pramote Malasitt and Eric Haase dispatched Braen Aneiros and Joel Moylan 8-2 at No. 1, Justin Roberson and Austin Fenn downed Luiz Rino and Priit Pihl 8-3 at No. 2 and Thomas Rohof and Alex Thomson ousted Ernesto Malagrino and Carlos Cardona 8-5 at No. 3.

The Flames (9-11) earned a win at No. 6 singles when Malagrino defeated Mike Prelec 6-2, 7-5. Elon claimed the other singles flights as Malasitt beat Aneiros 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1, Haase dropped Rino 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2, Rohof edged Pihl 7-6(5), 7-6(11) at No. 3, Roberson decisioned Cardona 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4 and Fenn finished Moylan 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5.

The Phoenix will be back at it when UNC Wilmington visits the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Meanwhile, Liberty begins play in the Big South Conference Tennis Championships Thursday on the Memorial Courts of the Winthrop Tennis Center.
