EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA -- Elon University head softball coach Patti Raduenz helped the USA Baseball Women's National Team (WNT) to a 8-1 victory over Chinese Taipei on Thursday night in the World Cup. Team USA finished pool play with a 3-1 ledger and will face Australia in the semifinals of the tournament.
The WNT took an early 3-0 lead when Raduenz knocked a single through the right side to score Sarah Gascon who had singled earlier in the inning. Donna Mills then plated Raduenz and Keri Lemasters with a single up the middle.
The Americans added two unearned runs in the second when Chinese Taipei's Jui-Mei Hung misplayed Kim Braatz-Voisard's shot to left.
Team USA maintained its hot offense throughout the game, adding a run in the fourth and two in the sixth.
Chinese Taipei (1-6, 0-4 World Cup) avoided the shutout in the third when three singles equaled a run for Mei-Ying Wu.
The WNT will battle Australia on Saturday, August 7 in a 3:00 p.m. game. The game can be followed at USA Baseball at 5:00 p.m.
