ELON, N.C. -- Diana Jallo scored her third goal of the season at 56:38 to break a 1-1 tie and lead the Chattanooga Lady Mocs to a 2-1 Southern Conference women’s soccer victory over the Elon Phoenix on Sunday afternoon from Rudd Field. UTC moved its record to 7-7-0 overall and 4-2-0 in SoCon action. Elon fell to 2-10-2, 0-6-0.
The Phoenix struck for the game’s first goal only 4:14 into the contest when Susannah Gianakos took a Katie Persichini pass and scored for the third time this year.
UTC answered right back when Ida Marie Froseth scored her first goal of the season off a Lisa Becht assist at 5:58.
The game remained scoreless until Jallo scored the game-winner.
The Lady Mocs launched 21 total shots, six of which were on frame. Elon took nine shots, including five on goal.
Elon’s Amy Cahill made four saves while playing the entire 90 minutes. UTC’s Stacey Matthiessen also made four stops while going the distance.
Elon heads to The Citadel for a 6:00 p.m. contest on Oct. 21. Chattanooga will close out its home schedule that same day against Appalachian State at the North River Soccer Complex. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
