CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla. – Keith Orlen shot a two-over-par 74 in final-round action, propelling Elon to a sixth-place finish at the El Diablo Intercollegiate men's golf tournament Sunday afternoon at the El Diablo Golf and Country Club.
Orlen (75-76-74–225) landed in a three-way tie for ninth place in the individual standings of the 111-player field. Orlen's placing marked his third top-10 finish in as many tournaments this spring. Rhode Island's Jay Pannone (77-70-72–219) claimed medalist honors in the two-day, three-round event.
The Phoenix (301-312-304–917) only finished behind Oklahoma City (293-302-301–896), Texas-San Antonio (313-296-297–906), Ball State (305-305-303–913), Yale (307-300-307–914) and Rhode Island (311-305-300–916) on the 7,045-yard course.
Murray State (302-299-318–919), Eastern Kentucky (304-307-309–920), Winthrop (316-302-302–920), Army (309-298-317–924), Florida Gulf Coast (305-306-317–928), Marquette (311-308-319–938), Princeton (316-311-316–943), host Marshall (315-315-318–948), Florida Atlantic (318-315-322–955), Wright State (317-317-324–958), Connecticut (319-320-320–959), Siena (329-319-322–970) and Hartford (331-341-342–1014) rounded out the rest of the 19-team field.
Elon also earned scores from James Hockman (Tied-17th/74-78-76–228), Justin Newton (Tied-31st/76-80-75–231), Bennett Smith (Tied-40th/77-78-79–234) and Jimmy Lytle (Tied-47th/76-80-79–235).
