SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Elon University's Kelly Fleck was declared the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week (for matches played on Feb. 24 through March 1) on Wednesday afternoon by the league's office.

A junior from Statesville, N.C., Fleck led Elon to its first SoCon victory of the season — a 5-2 home win against Chattanooga on Feb. 26 — which also marked first-year Phoenix head coach Elizabeth Perry’s first Southern Conference triumph.

Fleck picked up her first league singles triumph of the year by defeating Chattanooga's Kristie Wilson 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2. Fleck and her doubles partner Evin Prelec also recorded their first SoCon doubles win of the campaign, beating Chattanooga's Bethany Everett and Lindsey Ballard 8-5 at No. 1.

Another top performer for the week in Southern Conference women's tennis action was Ciara Finucane of Georgia Southern.
