Turner, Phoenix Excel at Elon Invitational

ELON, N.C. – Alice Turner continued her assault on the Elon record book as the Phoenix claimed eight titles in 19 events at the Elon Invitational women's track and field meet Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track and Dr. Alan and Norma White Field facility.

After setting a new school record in the 400-meter hurdles and achoring the 4x400-meter relay unit to a new program mark last weekend, Turner finished first out of 11 sprinters in the 100-meter dash this time around with a school-record time of 12.52 seconds. That performance topped the old milestone of 12.64 seconds, set by Rochelle Reid last season.

Turner also won the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:02.41. There were eight competitors in the race. She anchored the 4x100-meter relay team to a title with a time of 49.01 seconds. Jessica Clendenning, Brittany Boda and Dominique Price ran the first three legs of the relay for the Phoenix.

Elon's Angela Carlberg was a double-winner, finishing first out of 10 athletes in the shot put and first out of seven athletes in the discus throw. She tossed the shot put 11.76 meters and hurled the discus 38.12 meters.

Boda won the eight-athlete field in the 100-meter hurdles for the Phoenix, clocking in at 14.71 seconds. Clendenning finished first out of seven participants in the pole vault with a leap of 11-06.00. Teammate Lindsay Gonzalez captured the title in the 13-athlete long jump, leaping 5.07 meters.

The combo of Gonzalez, Morgan Zech, Boda and Turner finished second in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:12.44.
