ELON, N.C. – Graduate students
Mikayla Jones and
Madison Synowiec of the Elon University women's track and field team will represent the Phoenix at the 2025 NCAA East First Round, hosted by the University of North Florida at Hodges Stadium from Wednesday, May 28 through Saturday, May 31 in Jacksonville, Fla.
Synowiec heads into the NCAA First Round ranked No. 36 in the 10,000-meters while Jones ranks 41
st overall in the 5,000-meters on the NCAA East qualifying lists. Both athletes will compete in the semifinal round of their respective races in Jacksonville with the chance to qualify for the NCAA National meet in Eugene, Ore.
Synowiec clocked a personal-best time of 33:51.52 in the 10,000-meters at the Raleigh Relays earlier this season to clinch her berth to the NCAA Prelims. The Salisbury, Md., native is coming off earning a pair of medalist finishes at the CAA Outdoor Championships, finishing second in the 5,000-meters and third overall in the 10,000-meters. This is her first-ever trip to the NCAA First Round.
Jones posted the second-fastest time in school history in the 5,000-meters, posting a time of 16:01.59 at the Duke Twilight. The Aurora, Ohio, native took gold at the CAA Outdoor Championships in the 5,000-meters, clocking a time of 16:52.74. She also was the runner-up in the 10,000-meters at the league meet, posting a time of 34:37.19.
