Turner Named SoCon Performer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference today selected Elon University sophomore sprinter Alice Turner (Durham, N.C./Hillside) as its Women's Outdoor Track and Field Performer of the Week for her accomplishments at the Elon Invitational last Saturday.

After setting a new school record in the 400-meter hurdles and achoring the 4x400-meter relay unit to a new program mark the previous weekend, Turner finished first out of 11 sprinters in the 100-meter dash Saturday with a school-record time of 12.52 seconds. That performance topped the old milestone of 12.64 seconds, set by Rochelle Reid last season.

Turner also won the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:02.41. There were eight competitors in the race. She also anchored the 4x100-meter relay team (49.01 seconds) to a title. Jessica Clendenning, Brittany Boda and Dominique Price ran the first three legs of the relay for the Phoenix.
