Phoenix Downs Terriers in SoCon Tournament

Lucci posted a .357 hitting percentage with only five errors on 28 attempts while also notching five total blocks. Juliena Gigon paced the defense with a career-high 22 digs while Emily Downing recorded 13 and Brooke Pickard added 11. Jessica Barrow added nine kills while Downing and Mandy Wilson each posted eight kills. Natalie Moore tallied 51 assists for the Phoenix.

Liz Sheets led the Terriers with 11 kills while Lindsey Richardson and Shanna Hughes each tallied eight kills. Shana Glenn led the defense with 15 digs and Carolyn Rivers added 10. Joanna Suddath posted 34 assists for Wofford.

After a 3-3 tie in the first game, Elon scored five straight points to go ahead at 8-3. The Phoenix held onto the lead and extended its advantage to seven at 17-10 on a kill from Westphal. Wofford then used a 9-3 run to get with one at 20-19 on a kill from Suddath, but Elon outscored the Terriers 10-4 to finish the game 30-23 on a kill from Barrow.

In game two, Wofford (7-22) took a 14-9 lead and pushed that lead to six at 21-15 on a Sarah Palmer ace. Still down by six at 25-19, Elon used an 8-2 run to knot the game, 27-27. With Wofford serving for game point at 30-29, a kill from Lucci tied the game again at 30 but the Terriers tallied the next two points on a kill and an ace to take the 32-30 victory.

Elon (13-17) took an early six-point lead at 11-5 in game three. The Phoenix held onto the lead and went up by 11 at 25-14 on a kill from Mandy Wilson before closing the game 30-19 on a Terrier attack error.

In the fourth game, the Phoenix again went up early at 11-5. Elon pushed the lead to 13 at 24-11 before Wofford cut the lead to 10 at 25-15. But, Elon tallied the next five points to finish the game 30-15 on a kill from Moore.

Elon returns to action on Friday evening in a 7 p.m. match with number two-seeded Appalachian State.
