Bailey Lifts Phoenix Past Portland

After the Phoenix (7-6) secured the doubles point, Paige Kensrue conquered Jenna Tanzer 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles to extend the Elon edge to 2-0. Following Phoenix captain Jenn Tucci’s 6-4, 6-1 victory over Megan Sporndli at No. 2, Bailey beat Feyen to put Elon ahead 4-0 and ice the win for the Phoenix.

In doubles action, Bailey and Tucci topped Sporndli and Tanzer 8-4 at No. 1 Kensrue and Butcher slipped past Lindsey Griffin and Audree Jenks 8-6 at No. 2 to clinch the match’s first point for Elon.

The Pilots (7-4) picked up wins at No. 3 doubles (Feyen and Katie Kennel over Kelley Moore and Hayley Wahl 8-3), No. 4 singles (Griffin over Butcher 6-2, 6-4), No 5 singles (Anna Gullickson over Francie Rudolph 3-6, 6-4, 10-4) and No. 6 singles (Jenks over Alli Benton 6-4, 6-3).

The Phoenix will return to Southern Conference play, visiting Davidson at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Meanwhile, Portland will continue its tour of the SoCon this week with an 11:30 a.m. appearance at UNC Greensboro on Tuesday and a noon visit at Davidson on Wednesday.
