Phoenix Swept By College of Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Phoenix volleyball squad dropped its first Southern Conference match of the season Sunday afternoon, falling 3-0 (30-17, 30-20, 30-22) to the College of Charleston Cougars.  Elon falls to 7-8 (2-1) on the season, while the Cougars improve to 8-5 (3-0).

Elon was led by senior Emily Lucci's nine kills and five block assists.  Lucci also posted seven digs in the three-game set.

College of Charleston's defense stifled the Phoenix's hitting, particularly in game two when Elon hit .000.  CofC hit .371 overall to Elon's .121.  The Cougar defense held two of Elon's top hitters, Britany Westphal and Mandy Wilson, to negative hitting percentages in the match, while also recording 10 team blocks.

Setters Natalie Moore and Emily Regan dished out 18 and 12 assists, respectively, while Kelley Blakewood tallied 14 digs.

The Phoenix will travel to High Point Tuesday night for a mid-week, non-conference match before returning to Alumni Gym to host Furman (9/28) and Wofford (9/29).  All three matches are scheduled for 7 p.m.
