Elon Heads to Chattanooga for SoCon Softball Action

ELON, N.C. – The Elon softball team returns to action this weekend when they travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. for a three-game series against the Lady Mocs of Chattanooga.  The first game of Saturday’s double-header will begin at 1 p.m. with the second game set to begin at approximately 3 p.m.  The final game of the weekend is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday.

Elon enters the series with a 16-16 record, including a 5-4 mark in the league.  The team is also 6-10 away from East Field. Elon’s 5-4 SoCon record is good for a three-way tie for third place in the conference.  Georgia Southern and the College of Charleston also own 5-4 records.  Chattanooga is in sole possession of the top spot in the SoCon with a perfect 7-0 record. The team is 27-14 on the year.

This marks the 13th time that the two schools have faced off on the diamond. Chattanooga leads the series 10-3. Elon’s latest victory over the Lady Mocs came last season when they opened the series with a win before dropping the final two games.

Elon is looking to bounce back after a series loss to Georgia Southern last weekend. Elon went 2-1 against the Eagles, taking the middle game 11-2.  Brandi Jones who recorded four hits and was a homerun shy of the cycle led the Phoenix last weekend.  She also drove in a team-high five runs.

In the circle, Carol Lilley picked up the win.  She recorded three earned runs on 13 hits while registering two strikeouts and two walks.  Pam DelPizzo earned a team-low 2.21 ERA by allowing two earned runs on 13 hits in 6.1 innings of work.

Chattanooga’s offense is led by former SoCon Player of the Week Katie Blevins who has 12 homeruns and 31 RBI.  Michelle Fuzzard leads the team in batting average with a .364.

Two-time SoCon Pitcher of the Week Brooke Loudermilk leads the Lady Mocs in the circle with a 2.02 ERA and a 12-6 record.  She has registered 161 strikeouts and just 42 walks.
